Tom’s Trek 2023 – The ‘First’ Last Walk
Why did Jane and I and our dog Moses embark on a 14th sponsored walk for ZANE?
We walked because life for the poor in Zimbabwe is a gruelling
fight for survival. Imagine living in a country where inflation is 400% and rising. Imagine living in a country with no social provision: imagine living in a country with no state funded healthcare: imagine being poor, ill and lonely: imagine dying in squalor, facing fear, hunger, and despair.
This could be me: this could be you.
We walked once again to highlight that ZANE is the only lifeline for the many thousands of needy who have no one else to turn to.
We walked once again so that ZANE can afford to assist more people. Our brave ZANE workers say that the thing they dread the most is having to turn desperate people away through lack of resources.
We walked for Marion who is 75 and a diabetic. She worked as a teacher for over forty years.
Marion says: “My savings and pension have vanished and I’m too sick and old to start again. I’m so grateful to ZANE and the astonishing generosity of the ZANE donors. Please thank them for me.“
If you donate to ZANE, please know that the money goes to those in desperate need.
ZANE supporters like you make the difference between hope and despair and brings smiles to faces and hope for the future. Please sponsor our walk; the need is so great. Thank you so much.
Yours sincerely
Tom Benyon OBE

The Route
The table below gives the start points for each day. These are also the end points for the previous days. The final column gives the What3Words references. This is a clever system used by the emergency services to pinpoint locations. To use it, please download the What3Words app or go to www.what3words.com and enter the reference in the search box.
The number to contact the walkers and driver during the walk itself is 01865 693016. During the walk, this number will be set to divert to the driver’s mobile.
